I never struggled with those body shape quizzes in Cosmopolitan for one reason: I am such a clearly defined pear shape I probably popped out of the womb with giant hips and thighs. I read that about half of women are pear shaped, so while I certainly feel unfortunate, at least I don’t feel alone.

Things can really get technical with defining your body shape, though!

Interesting.

I ate a pot of ice cream…

Yesterday I ate a pot of ice cream (1200 calories).  The first ice cream proper since last year.

I also ate two bags of crisps this week (750 calories each) and drank about 10 glasses of wine (2000 cals?).

That’s 3950 calories, or more than a 1lb of fat.

I’m acknowledging it.  Feeling tired.

I did also go to pilates, hard core yoga, circuits and cycled every day.

Don’t think the latter makes up for the former though.

However, on the bright side, it is now nearly 5 months since I touched a cornish pasty (was eating about 12 a week), over 16 months since I had sweetener in my tea and I haven’t had much pizza.

Feeling a little under pressure.  Not dealing with food well.

Erik Chopin: Diary of a Fat Man

Last night I watched a programme about Erik Chopin, a former winner of The Biggest Loser.  Above is his picture after he won, all tanned, slim, good looking.

Below is what he looked like a few years later.  Yes, he put most of the weight back on.

It makes me realise that quick fixes are not enough.  A way of life it has to be.

Addiction: update (bad teeth, diet cola)

So I mentioned my addiction to diet cola here.

I really want to give it up but it is hard.

Sunday I didn’t drink any all day.  All day yesterday I had headache.  Sunday I couldn’t understand why EVERYTHING felt so hard and I wanted to curl up in a ball in bed.  Until I remembered I hadn’t had any diet cola.

Yesterday (Monday) I bought some cola and today I’m having a can (330ml).  A single can.  I VOW!!!

You’d think I’d have learned – another tooth has a hole in it (previously healthy) and the dentist grilled me on whether I have a sweet tooth.  Not really for sugar I suppose is my answer, but then aspartame, that’s another story.

I haven’t had sweetener in my tea/coffee since Jan 2011.  I just need to wean myself off this cola (and pay all those dentist bills).  The dentist has put me on special toothpaste for people who have more cavities.

I’m going to enjoy my single can of cola now (like a good little addict).

Sibling rivalry

My sister has lost 3 stone (that’s 32 lbs) since January.  Is it wrong that it brings out the competitive side in me?

I was doing quite well until March, when I sprained my ankle.  I guess I’d lost about 21lbs.  I’ve probably put about  7lbs back on.

Admittedly, my sister has a lot more to lose than me.  She’s about 5 stone overweight and just had a baby.  But she does SO well at it.

I just suck.  I can’t stick to the diet plan, even though I’m way more active than her.  Admittedly she’s not working (mat leave) so has nothing much else to focus on apart for losing weight and being a mum.

She has never been skinnier than me.  If she keeps up at it she will be.

Today I went back to Zumba.  Circuits tomorrow.

Boys and clothes

After the ID fraud, I’ve been on a clothes drought.  I was waiting on a new CC.  I have one!!!!  Bought my first clothes tonight, after a nightmare of trying on clothes in a cheaper shop (Dorothy Perkins) but realising I need better made clothes as I’m no longer 21 and not stick thin.

Anyway.  Point of the post.

Last w/e put me in a bit of a tis.

I’m picky when it comes to men.  I don’t like them perving on me; don’t honestly believe they are interested in me though for the real me (ok, tits and ass but they don’t know the brain).  Plus, being a brain snob I find it REALLY hard to find true chemistry with men.  Maybe I need more confidence.

I’ve met 4/5 men in my WHOLE life who show me that the chemistry really can exist.

I met another of them last week.  You know the deal; shared interests; desire to jump into bed straight away (never would; too much wisdom and self-respect).  It wasn’t a date thing, just a friend of a friend I was introduced to.  But I was left wanting more.  He said see you next time.  That could be never or 6 months from now.  I don’t even know his surname.

Sigh….

Sore throat

I have a sore throat.  I had to come home and go straight to bed.  I’m living on Lemsip.

However, it means I can’t munch on bad food.

No crisps for me this week!   So far…

Silver lining an all that…

Better go and make another Lemsip.

Jessica Biel: the body I want

I was watching ‘30 best bikini bodies’ on E! with interest.

I’ve never worn a bikini and hate getting wet in a swimsuit as it shows my ‘number 3 shaped tummy’.

You’ll have seen my measurements and my complaints about BMI tests because I carry a lot of muscle and have quite an athletic figure with broad shoulders under the extra weight (when I did serious sport at university I bulked up like a man on the top half).

I think I actually have the shape of Jessica Biel and would LOVE LOVE LOVE to look a little bit like her.

Seems this is what she does.

Typical diet

  • Eat unprocessed, “clean foods” starting with complex carbs in the morning and tapering them off by the end of the day.
  • Breakfast: oatmeal with handful of berries or oatmeal with diced apple and cinnamon, and a side of protein (typically one egg scrambled with three egg whites)
  • Snack: one slice whole wheat toast with almond butter and sliced bananas on top.
  • Lunch: salad (spinach, asparagus, broccoli) dressed with lemon and a teaspoon of olive oil or vinaigrette plus with 5-6 oz of chicken
  • Snack: banana, apple or strawberries or soy-based protein drinks made with skimmed milk or protein bars or a dozen unsalted almonds.
  • Dinner: 6oz. of fish, plate full of veggies, 1/2 cup of low-glycemic basmati rice. A couple of pieces of dark chocolate.
  • She eats low GCI foods, such as Eat leafy greens, spinach and broccoli, some eggs, berries and chicken.

Exercise

  • Stretch: one of her favorite warm-ups is the walking lunge.
  • Cardio: after a ½-mile jog, she hits the track for two 200m, 150m and 100m sprints.
  • Core: “hanging leg raises don’t build a six-pack, but they flatten,” says Walsh [Biel's trainer]. “Jessica hates them, but she powers through!” How-to: Hanging from a high bar or rings, pull knees up slightly above waist. Do three sets of 15 repetitions.
  • Plyometrics: jump from the bottom step of a flight of at least 20 stairs to the third. Keep going, skipping a stair each jump.
  • Weight Training: “we tend to use lighter weights and do more reps,” he says. “We keep moving, so it becomes a cardio workout too.”
  • For the waist: do the Russian Twist. Sit down and lean back slightly. Hold a 5-lb. medicine ball and twist from side to side, 15 twists per side, three reps.
  • For shoulders/biceps: stand with knees slightly bent. Hold 10lb. weights in each hand. Curl to chest. Rotate hands, palms face outward. Press overhead together. Do 3 sets of 10-12 reps.

She does:

  • High Intensity Interval Training with track sprints, plyometrics and weight training.

GIven that I don’t eat fish and eggs, I always struggle with following ‘celeb’ diets (they seem to be full of the stuff) but maybe it’s time try some running and circuits classes, just to mix it up.
